In partnership with regional permaculture experts, Island City Lab has revised HEART’s landscaping curriculum to introduce vocational students and instructors to practical green infrastructure and nature-based approaches for the Caribbean context.
The team engaged with vocational instructors, HEART staff, and landscape professionals to understand the state of the landscape industry and the gaps related to climate preparedness. These engagements and workshops produced a gap analysis that served as the basis for the overall curriculum revision.

HEART instructors from their Ebony Park institution were critical to the process and were invited to participate in a permaculture design course with One Regeneration that introduced them to the ways in which a more ecological landscaping could manage issues like flooding, biodiversity, soil health, and even bush fire resilience.
